Bangkok Thailand: Food Trip Edition

In every travel that I go to, I always make sure to try out dishes from whichever country or city it is that I am visiting. Thailand, is one of the many countries in Asia that is just so rich and diverse when it comes to flavours. The spices department is really nuts and I just love Tom Yum Goong - Tom Yum Goong - anytime of the day is just fabulous GOOD. Here are a few snaps and descriptions of what I basically tasted around. There are another specialities that I haven't tried cos it is quite different when you're travelling with your parents who are health/ hygiene conscious but nonetheless, I'd like to believed that I've covered what I needed for my taste buds this time around.

Sky Coffee Shop (Baiyoke Sky Tower Hotel)

Hotel lobby dine in upon arrival with an ample view of what's in store outside the hotel. This is our second time staying at Baiyoke Sky Tower Hotel and it's always a pleasure and full of nonstop convenience if I may say.

Thai Fried Rice, the usual fried that we order in most restaurants - only difference is that Thailand is one of the many countries that has rich rice soils that produces on of the best qualities there is :) The servings kind of reminded me from those in Saigon, Vietnam.

Japanese Ramen, good and really tasty.

Assorted Sashimi, fresh as a breeze.

Fresh Coco Juice

Fruit Buffet 

Craving for seasoned fruits which are the freshest of the freshest? Or just simply going for that healthy lifestyle vibe then this lobby shop is catered to just FRUITS. And it's EAT ALL YOU CAN.

You can stay on this area for a maximum of 2 hours for 350baht. All sorts of seasoned fruits are available as well as these freshly squeezed juices and some dried fruits too. You can also opt for fruits salad mixes or ask their friendly staff to open new Durians for you. And oh did I mentioned, that they also have all sorts of sorbets and ice creams? :D NOM!

Baiyoke Sky Tower Hotel is also known as a buffet hub for tourists and locals apart from being the tallest building with a revolving tower in Bangkok Thailand. Street Food (Indra Area just outside Baiyoke Sky Tower Hotel)

I'm telling you Bangkok Thailand is probably the only city in the world, where there is no excuse for getting hungry because you will never get hungry at all - most local vendors operates at 5 in the afternoon 'til early morning.

Now, if you want to morning the night by trying all the varieties of street food in Bangkok - this area in Indra just outside Baiyoke Sky Tower Hotel is a major hub for street shopping (tiangge style) and street foods - even street cocktail bars are available. Just be cautious on some items that you want to eat. My favourites are the grilled fish (fresh as coco and just amazingly yummy). Prices are usually below 100baht but it all depends on the dish. 

Platinum Food Court

On the topmost of a shopping center in Bangkok lies a food court with a style. Why I say so? Because you need to purchase a loaded card to be able to buy the different varieties of food from every stall. And I was actually reprimanded by one employee cos it was not allowed to take in photos but girls gotta take some snaps :)

You need to purchase these loaded cards to your load of choices from 200baht up and you can enter the area and start swiping it like you're shopping for a pair of hermes :D

Most dishes are purely Asian which ranges from Ramen, Noodles, Curries and these sweet treats. My personal favourite is this filled waffle, the fillings are of different choices ranging from durian, beans and so on. I actually love the Thai Cream filling :D 

Seafood Thai Food

In one of our private guided tours, our guide took us to this home styled restaurant near the pier area which served fresh seafoods and I have to tell you, the dishes were all amazing.

Tom Yum Goong, like I said earlier I'm never gonna get tired of having this. I think in this travel, this was my 4th bowl of Tom Yum Goong. I kept having it dine in, in our hotel room :D But this one was superbly flavoured.

Four Kinds of Seafoods, ahhh Thailand is truly amazing when it comes to soup dishes.

Chicken Curry, apart from Pad Thai and Tom Yum Soup, Thailand is known for their curries. And it is a must try in every restaurant that you'll dine in in Bangkok.

Crab Meat Fried Rice

Grilled Fish, they actually call it Barbecued Fish and dude, it's freaking boneless and grilled to perfection.

Fresh Orange Juice, one of the many reasons why I had an acne break out after the trip was this drink. I couldn't get enough of oranges. In every restaurant and street vendor, I went to, they all had the same exact same taste for their oranges which is just pure heave :)

Bottled water, in a really literally sense. I almost died upon realising that each bottle was individual sealed :D

If you happen to be on guided tour, you can ask your guide to take you to this place. It's usually packed during lunch by tourists and the place is just with limited seats, so it's always better to go with reservations or be there before lunch time or lunch time.

Grand Palace (Siam Paragon)

I have to tell you, Siam Paragon Food Court is just crazy crowded during night time but the varieties of semi expensive open restaurants in a food court setting caught me by surprised. Grand Palace is basically the only restaurant that I went into that serves a soup that's worth around 3000baht but of course we didn't take that :D

Orange Juice, again and again :D

Mushroom Soup, ahhh love it. Reminded me of a mushroom soup I've tried somewhere in Singapore.

Stir Fried Noodles, the shrimps were fresh but not so much a fan of the dish.

Dimsum Taro, really good. Almost the same taste as the ones here in Cebu.

Steamed Fish in Soy Sauce, amazingly spiced and cooked perfectly.

Prawn Salad, averagely good.

To sum up this experience, my favourite is the steamed fish in soy sauce. I think Chinese restaurants are the best when it comes to steaming dishes. I have to suggest going around Siam Paragon Food Court on non peak hours to really enjoy checking out everything. There's also this Indian Resto there, that I was dying to try but can't cos my parents are somewhat allergic to curry flavoured dishes :D

The Berkeley Dining Room (Berkeley Pratunam Hotel)

This would have to fall under fine private dining cos we were the only ones in their dining area that night :D But it was all cool, they still served up with the highest quality and I just love it. I love all the food.

 Buffet Breakfast are usually held on this area in most days.

Bread and Butter, my favourite in any restaurant that I dine into.

Chicken Satay, the presentation kind of surprised me but it was flavoured right.

Margarita Pizza, as expected of a Margarita Pizza but I love their dough

Big C Supermarket

I think it has become my tradition to check out supermarkets when I travel. I obviously for Thailand, I have to check it out because of the assortments of spices and sauces that I know are readily available. And Big C didn't fail me on this. This was basically the closest to the hotels that I stayed to.

What surprised me was the assortment of fresh Tuna and Salmons on their fresh goods area. Just mouth watering. Then theres the flavoured rice, different spices and sauces. I wanted to shop everything but of course I didn't have enough spare money in my pocket hahaha so I just ended taking pictures :D

Silom Village (Airport Dining)

This is my last taste of Thailand for this travel and even in their airport dining - it didn't fail me at all. Talk about brining in the flavours from the street on the convenience of the airport waiting area. I am totally suggesting this stop when you're hungry while waiting for your flights. Their customers were mostly pilots and businessmen. :)

And that concludes my Food Trip for this travel. In all Asian countries, Thailand is my favourite because of the ambiance that it offers. I love the different food flavours, I love their love for Elephants and shopping and I love all their tourists attractions, especially the temples. And I love it there. Looking forward to coming back - hopefully with my better half. Hahaha One day :D 'Til next food trip! <3 p="">

Tavolata

The place had been around for two years but was hesitant to go and try out the dishes on their menu and now I wonder what took me so long to go. Tavolata is one of the many restaurants operated by the Abaca Group. I've been to Abaca Resort and Phat Pho and have to admit their food is exquisitely served even if it's the simplest dish - it is prepared and presented with so much flair.

The place is really cozy and has that sophistication. I love the falling/ hanging lights, the long tapestries and the yellow lights all over the place which gives it a feel like its been lighted by candles. It's a two storey resto but with limited seatings, so it's important to come early for lunch or dinner or book a reservation in advance.

I'd like to apologised for the low photo quality but I opted to not use the flash to take these photos. 

Mashed Potatoes with Olive Oil, heaven! The taste is just lovely. You can taste the milk and butter on it.

Penna Cotta, the best that I've tasted. The smoothness and thickness of the entire dessert was perfectly crafted.

Fresh Mango Juice, still nothing beats my favourite from Plantation Bay and Resort.

Tavolata Salad, visually good and tastes really nice. I love the salad sauce.

Pappardelle Pasta, their pasta is hand crafted home made and it's amazing. The texture of their pasta is a killer.

Parmesan Chicken, breaded spiced chicken fillet topped with tomatoes and parmesan - the bomb. I love it.

Prosciutto Pizza, a healthy pizza with that home goodness freshness. Another love :)

Jumbo Seafoods and BBQ

I'm a huge fan of seafoods though I am allergic to certain kinds. I think I've written entries about my dine in experiences with restos that offers an assortment of such. Jumbo Seafoods is a Korean owned and managed food place with individual rooms for meetings and a more private dining experience and an open space area for its Acoustic nights. It is conveniently located at Marigondon Cebu.

They basically offer an arraignment of seafoods from Lobstert, Crabs, Prawns, Oysters and Clams. Apart from these delectable food, they also serve usual barbecue meals. Price ranges from 150php up. Fresh seafoods are weighed and are charged according to it's grams. Now, since this place is owned by a Korean, they also offer Sushi, Sashimi packages for groups to attract families and tourists. Oh! I forgot to mention, their toilets are really fancy :) Love it :)

We had Yang Chow Fried, Pineapple Rice (which surprisingly was called as such because it was placed inside a pineapple shell :D), Fresh Oysters, Seafoods Sinigang, Grilled Squid, Grilled Longganisa, Buttered Lobsters and Garlic Chilli Crabs. All of them - FANTASTIC :D Looking at the photos - I feel terribly hungry. 

I love the place and I love the food. I like the idea that they provide plastic gloves to eat the food with ease using the hands. I just hope they'll provide some wet tissues next time though :) I also love the private/ individual rooms where we had our meals. Looking forward to trying out their sushis and sashimis next time. Acacia Grill and Restaurant

Had always passed by and had used their toilets for so many times over the years but never had the time to dine in until recently. Located at the Shoe Expo Center in Carcar City Cebu is a place filled with good ambiance and mouth watering food - mostly grilled :)

We ordered Beef Bulalo, Kinilaw, Grilled Squid, Grilled Tuna Belly, Grilled Pork Belly and French Fries (the only rose among the thorns - haha). Everything was good. So good, it tastes like it was cooked at home by a relative or someone I know. I LOVE IT.

The place is not that big, so if you're planning to take the entire family for lunch, it's better to make a reservations. People usually stop by before heading to Simala Church or after. Price ranges from 100php up.

La Vie Parisienne

Was never a fan of French cuisine, probably because I haven't tried any yet or maybe because their menu is mostly consists of pastries and the only thing I'm familiar with is cheese, wine and croissants :) La Vie Parisienne has been around for some time but going to their main branch in Lahug was and is always out of the way from me or from where I live but good thing they've open a new branch within the four walls of the Ayala Malls.

I am absolutely in love with their interiors - there's always something about that french flare that makes me appreciate neat essentials and white paint paired with light cool colours - it fascinates me. The food is also good. I was confused on which one to order. I love croissants and I love cakes - the place was heaven :)

We had La Mentonnaise Salad, Pasta Carbonara, Hungarian Sausage, Morocco Pizza, Opera Cake and Macaroons. I LOVE Everything :D I'm not being biased on here but the food were all fantastic and I have a personal favourite on their pie department - I think it's called the Coconut Pie or something (forgot the name) - it was impeccably delish.

What an experience. Everything on the menu is perfect for chill and solemn date night moments. They also serve wines with cheese and wine with set meals. Price ranges from a hundred pesos up. Depends on your palette :) For more details check their facbook page www.facebook.com/lavieparisiennecebu

Famous Belgian Waffles

I personally prefer waffles any time of the day and for the longest time, I have been wanting to try out Famous Belgian Waffles at their SM City Cebu Branch but never had any luck because of the long queue back then. 

And finally after months of patiently waiting, I can totally crashed it out on my lists of foods to try. I love their waffle texture - the mix is awesome and I'm a sucker for their Chocolate Cream Cheese serving. Price ranges from 40php to 100php, so it's budget friendly and they also serve Malaysian brewed coffee which taste really good and jives well with their waffles.

Cafe Noriter

There's a not so new coffee shop in town with interiors as cute as daisies - Cafe Noriter Cebu. Have seen, passed by and heard about this place through friends and social media for almost a year but never had the chance to check it out until recently. And words of mouth were exactly correct when they said it was beautiful there.

The place was as I expected it to be. Cute, relaxing and very Korean - Asian - and I love it. 

I'm totally digging on the interiors and post its which is all over the place. You can write something and post it anywhere. They will also take some photos of you and post it on their official Facebook page which is really convenient and cool. And they offer free wifi and cute throw pillows and stuffed toys that you could cuddle with while dining :) And they have the non aircon area in the event the place gets too crowded and indoor toilet :)

We had, Java Chip Frappuccino, Mango Smoothie, Cafe Latte, Vanilla Ice Cream with Espresso Coffee and Honey Bread (which I highly recommend - it's their specialty also). The drinks were all good. Almost as good as that the traditional known coffee shops in Cebu that offers that same drink. Price range is from 100 to 200php.

Fiji Restaurant

Had passed by and seen this restaurant every time my family visits The Plantation Bay Resort and Spa but never had a chance to dine in. I always thought, they were more like a pub kind of place but I was wrong. They actually had some serious nice view of the sea and ambiance so wonderful, made me want to sleep :D

Most of their dishes are seafoods and oriental. Love the interiors which gives it a cool feel, given the most of the customers just got out of water and so. 

Appetizer is Bread and Butter. Salmon Sashimi, fresh as nuts - I totally love it and the seaweeds too. Baju Platter, an assortment of seafoods (clamps, shrimps, fish and squid - all grilled), Grilled Salmon with vegetables in ginger sauce, Yakisoba noodles, Pan Fried Fish in sweet and sour sauce and Grilled mixed vegetables. My favourite? I love them all. I specifically love their Salmon dishes. I've dined into other restaurants and have always tried Salmon dishes and so far, theirs is really good. 

I don't know about you but I really find, Plantation Bay Resort and Spa's Fresh Mango Juice the best amongst the hotels that I've visited, I really like their preparation for it. And these home made Ice creams are to die for. Strawberry and Peanut Butter home made ice creams - it's a MUST TRY.

All in all - I love in house hotel dining. I love Plantation Bay Resort and Spa. I love every food I've tasted and ordered from all their restaurants inside the resort. ZubuChon

Have heard of this for some time now but never had I dined because I don't eat Pork's meat and knowing that they specialised in Pig's meat, I abstained from going but was surprised to know that they offer Seafoods dishes on their menu and there I was with my parents - enjoying my self with some personal native Filipino seafoods dishes :)

Zubuchon has 5 branches in Cebu. We dined at their new Mactan Marina Mall branch and have to say, the place was so neat. White and red perfectly goes well and the restroom was clean too. They also have a seafoods are for sashimi orders and other seafoods dishes. Apart from their menus on hand, they also sell Pasalubong delicacies for tourists who dines in :)

Their speciality is Lechon - crunchy charcoaled to perfection pig with crispy skin and soft tasty meat. My favourite assorted Seaweeds (a personal favourite), Monggo Soup (another personal favourite), Tuna Sashimi, Ginataang Langka (Banana Heart), Lechon (with special sauce), Bulad Platter aka Dried Fish Platter and Cassava Cake. Wow! That's totally a lot of food. But all of it was so good. I specifically love the sashimi, bulad platter and langka :)

The Social Cebu

There is a new cafe in town that turns into an awesome chill out bar at night - the Social is conveniently located at the new wing of the Ayala Malls Cebu. What I love about the place? Everything :)

I absolutely love the interiors. It's like walking into an Australian or English or downtown Manhattan cafe. I love the feel good ambiance paired with a street like flair and just look at the almost open kitchen where you can check out chefs preparing your dishes :) LOVE <3 p="">

The Social offers Breakfast, All Day, Wood Fired Pizzas, Nibbles, Beers, Cocktails, Wines and Mocktails and never forget - Coffees :) We had Chicken Caesar Salad, which was served with pouched egg, lettuce, cheese, bread crumbs and grilled chicken. Really good. I love the pouched egg - it was a bit of a surprise to see it on top of a salad dish. A bucket of Fries, which were sprinkled with parmesan cheese (if I'm not mistaken). Three Little Pigs Pizza, I find the name amusing but it is what it is, it is consists of a thin crust pizza (soft not too crunchy - which is good), pepperoni, ham and bacon. The Social Burger, grilled patties with pineapple and the usual burger pairings. Really good as well :)

Isla Sugbu Seafoods City

Decided to celebrate my birthday with a seafoods bang at a not so new place in town - Isla Sugbu Seafoods. I've always been a fan of seafoods though I am allergic to some specialty.

Seafoods City at the new Grand Convention Center Cebu has a huge space. What I like about it, is that it is so neat with live seafoods placed in one corner where people can choose from as they order. There is basically so much goodness to choose from - looking forward to going back.

Here's a summary of what we ate. Since, I'm a lobster lover, we decided to order to different lobster, cultured and non cultured (sea lobster). We had Grilled Lobster (cultured) with 4 sauces (Garlic and Chili, Sweet Soy Sauce, Butter, Sweet and Sour), Crabs in Chili Sauce, Seafoods Rice and Butter & Cheese Lobster (non cultured) with home made noodles (so good) and Red Suno Fish.

Since it was my birthday (and because my mom told them so), the crew decided to sing me a happy birthday song and presented me with this red velvet cake. The first time in my many birthdays that people greeted me in public - I felt so special. Thank you! <3 p="">

It was one of the best meals that I've had in the seafoods department. I love everything though I still have to admit that nothing beats the Singaporean way of preparing and cooking Crabs. All orders are per grams. Looking forward to going back soon :)
